Virginia Spine Institute
The Virginia Spine Institute (VSI) site served as a major information hub for patients seeking spine care, treatment options, and physician expertise. Built in ExpressionEngine, the platform included detailed medical content, provider bios, procedural guides, patient resources, and appointment pathways. I worked on this site during a period when ExpressionEngine was widely used for custom, content-driven sites that required structured layouts and a high degree of editorial control.
Structured Medical Content & Service Pages
The site contained extensive treatment information and condition-specific pages, which needed to be structured, readable, and easy for patients to navigate. I worked within ExpressionEngine’s channel and template system to create clear pathways for users to explore symptoms, procedures, and doctor-guided recommendations.
Refinement of Templates & Front-End Implementation
I handled front-end development and templating work—integrating design elements, optimizing layouts, and ensuring that content like doctor profiles, educational materials, and procedural descriptions were presented cleanly and responsively. Medical content tends to be text-heavy, so a major priority was maintaining clarity and readability while preserving VSI’s brand and tone.
Support for a Patient-Focused User Experience
Given the nature of the organization, the site needed to guide users toward understanding treatment options and ultimately scheduling appointments. I helped refine the UX with improved page structures, better navigation, and cleaner presentation of care pathways to support patient decision-making.
This project highlights my experience working with ExpressionEngine on a content-rich medical services site, delivering a clear, reliable, and user-focused digital experience for a major healthcare organization.
