NCARB
NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards) oversees architectural licensure across the United States, supporting candidates, educators, and licensing boards with guidance, credentials, requirements, and career pathways. I led the full Drupal build of their main public site, which serves as a central hub for architectural licensure information, continuing education, examination resources, and jurisdiction-specific requirements.
Large-Scale Content Architecture for a Complex Organization
The site contains a significant amount of structured content—guides, exam information, continuing education resources, jurisdiction details, program overviews, and policy materials. My work focused on creating a clear, maintainable content architecture that allowed NCARB’s internal teams to manage this volume without complexity. This included designing reusable components, flexible layouts, and a taxonomy structure that supports deep navigation through technical material.
Custom Licensing Requirements Tool
One of the standout features I built was the Licensing Requirements Tool, an interactive system that helped users understand the specific licensure requirements for the jurisdiction they were pursuing. The tool allowed candidates to:
- Select a state or jurisdiction
- Compare requirements for education, experience, and examinations
- View structured, easy-to-digest outcomes
- Understand next steps based on their personal stage in the licensure process
This tool solved a significant user-experience challenge: licensing information is not uniform across jurisdictions, and summarizing those differences in a clear, interactive way dramatically improved candidate understanding and reduced confusion.
Flexible Components & Long-Term Usability
Using a modular, component-driven approach, I built a system that could support NCARB’s wide array of content types while staying visually consistent. Editors can assemble pages from a library of structured elements, making it easy to update guidance, publish program updates, and share announcements as licensure standards evolve.
This project demonstrates my ability to deliver a complex Drupal platform for a nationally recognized organization—balancing structured data, user-focused tools, and a flexible editorial experience.
