The Phillips Collection

The Phillips Collection, America’s first museum of modern art, needed a flexible and modern Drupal platform to support its exhibitions, events, artworks, educational programs, and membership offerings. I led the full Drupal build, creating a robust, component-driven system that could support a high-profile institution with a constantly shifting mix of exhibitions, programs, and digital content.

Component System for Exhibitions, Events & Artworks

Using a flexible Paragraphs-based architecture, I created a wide library of reusable components that editors could use to build rich, visually engaging pages. Exhibitions, artist talks, programming, “What’s On” pages, educational content, and collection highlights all rely on these structured, modular pieces—allowing museum staff to update content quickly while preserving a consistent design language.

Automated Migration of the Art Collection

A major part of the build involved integrating and automating the migration of artwork records from an external system into Drupal. This ensured that artists, artworks, object metadata, and collection details stayed synchronized without manual entry. It also gave the museum the ability to continue expanding their digital collection without reworking the CMS.

Alerts & Visitor-Focused Features

The site required a fully configurable alert system used for real-time visitor messaging—museum hours, reservation notices, closures, safety updates, and more. This system allowed the museum to quickly adjust visitor communications across the site with a single update.

Designed for a High-Volume, High-Visibility Museum

With exhibitions rotating regularly and events happening constantly, the platform had to handle frequent updates, strong editorial workflows, and rich media. The site also integrates structured events listings, dynamic “What’s On” sections, and pathways that guide visitors toward planning a visit, becoming a member, or exploring the collection.

This project demonstrates my ability to deliver a large-scale, museum-grade Drupal build, complete with flexible components, automated data integrations, and editorial systems designed to support both curatorial depth and day-to-day visitor engagement.
