As the lead developer for Catholic Charities USA, I have been responsible for architecting, building, and continually enhancing a large-scale WordPress ecosystem that serves millions of users across the country. This includes designing and implementing new features, improving performance and stability, and driving ongoing UX and UI improvements alongside the design team.
Key Responsibilities & Contributions
- Lead development & architecture for a complex, enterprise-level WordPress installation used by a nationwide network of agencies.
- Built a geolocative agency locator, enabling users to find local Catholic Charities agencies by geolocation, search radius, filtering, and map-based browsing.
- Implemented multilingual support & site-wide translation workflows to support audiences across regions and linguistic communities.
- Created and expanded numerous custom Gutenberg blocks, reusable layout components, and editorial tools to give content teams greater flexibility.
- Developed performance optimizations, caching improvements, and scalable content structures to support heavy traffic during national initiatives and crises.
- Delivered ongoing feature enhancements, design extensions, refactors, and maintenance to keep the site modern, stable, and aligned with organizational goals.
Impact
The platform now supports a smoother editorial experience, a more intuitive public-facing interface, and significantly improved access to services—including emergency assistance, donations, advocacy efforts, and local programs—making a direct difference for individuals and families in need across the United States.
